There were around thirty students standing on the Le Havre dock waiting to climb aboard Veolia Environnement. Several minutes later, the students from René Descartes junior high were invited to come abroad in small groups to explore Roland Jourdain’s boat from fore to aft.
They stood on the rear deck with its famous helm used to steer the boat, then they passed below where they saw Roland and Jean-Luc’s office, before heading back up to the foredeck.
The teenagers were as thrilled as their supervisors by this visit. Sylvain Legendre, one of the teachers accompanying the students for this visit, explains, “René Descartes is located in one of the less fortunate areas of Le Havre. These kids rarely have the opportunity to get out of their environment, so to be able to bring them down here to the docks, and for them to be able to actually visit Roland Jourdain’s boat is a really awesome experience for them.”
An experience that they had difficulty dragging themselves away from given the number of questions they asked. Spellbound, they drank in every word that Roland Jourdain said, sharing once again his deep-felt passion for the sea.
Maybe some will have even found their future calling standing there on the dock in Le Havre.
